Overview

Murray was born in Calgary, Alberta and moved to Vancouver in 1976 and obtained his Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia in 1981.  In 1982, Murray completed a British Columbia Legislative Internship and went on to obtain his law degree from the University of Toronto in 1985. He was called to the British Columbia bar the following year.

Since his call to the bar, Murray has been a litigator.  For over 25 years, Murray has practiced mainly in the areas of commercial litigation, construction litigation, estate litigation and personal injury.  Over the past 10 years, Murray’s practice has focused on disputed wills and estates, property ownership, boundary and easement disputes and commercial litigation. Murray also practices in the area of mental incapacity/committeeship applications.  Murray also has a wealth of experience conducting mediations and resolving disputes on behalf of his clients.

Publications

Together with Ross McLarty, Murray co-authored both the 2002 and 2001 Civil Litigation Practice Update Chapter in the Continuing Legal Education Annual Review of Law and Practice.

He was also a co-author of “Recent Developments in Fatal Accidents (Family Compensation Act) Litigation”, Canadian Journal of Insurance Law, Vol. 11, No. 6.

Murray has volunteered his services in drafting content for the Dial-A-Law program formerly offered by the Canadian Bar Association and now operated by the People’s Law School.

Professional Memberships

Murray has been a member of the Law Society of B.C. since his call in 1986.

Murray is also a long time member and supporter of the Canadian Bar Association.   Murray regularly attends meetings of the Wills & Trusts, Elder Law, and other CBA sections and has served in the past as chairperson of the Aboriginal Law – Vancouver Section.  More recently Murray recently served as a member of the B.C. Branch’s Court Services Committee.

Community Service

Murray volunteers his time at a free legal advice clinic organized by the Access Pro Bono Society. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the West End Community Centre Association in Vancouver for three years and as a volunteer for an additional four years.
